Books that Build Character

This is a great list of books that deal with the difficulties of growing up and building character.

Reading Lists

"Any book that helps a child form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him."  -Maya Angelou

I just discovered this site and it is WONDERFUL! They have book lists broken down into various groups such as: Books about Families, Adventure Books, Award Winning Books, Educational books, etc.
Once you see a book you're interested in, you can click on the title and the site will give you a synopsis, review, target age, and things parents might need to know about the book. This is a GREAT resource.

FAVORITE BOOKS FOR FIFTH GRADERS
This site offers a list of great books for fifth grade students. It gives a short synopsis of each book as well as other lists sorted by grade level.

Game Idea

MULTIPLICATION WAR

This game requires 2 players.
Using a standard deck of playing cards:
  • Each player starts with half the deck (26 cards)
  • Each player will put down ONE card face up into the center
  • The player who multiplies the two numbers the fastest, gets both cards (if one player turns up a 4 and the other turns up a 5, the first player to say "20" wins both cards). Face cards should be counted as 10.
  • The player who ends with all of the cards WINS!
This is a great way to practice the basic multiplication facts!

Welcome Parents!

Parents,
This will be a place you can come to find helpful strategies and websites your children can use to practice important skills like multiplication, division, spelling, and much more!

I will provide links to websites as well as short descriptions of each site and the strategies it works on. I will also provide ways your child can practice at home in order to build on the things we learn during school.

You can let me know if there is something specific you feel your child needs help on and I will be happy to try and find resources I can in order to help them!
